Here is part of an interview between CNN and George Lucas about the Star Wars DVD.
CNN: Why not release both the originals and special editions on DVD?LUCAS: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it.
I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be.
I'm the one who has to take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished.
There you go, folks. He wants it to be the way he wants it to be, and the rest of you can go to hell. The spoiled brat didn't get his way before, but now he's rich and can do what he damn well pleases. Besides, it's not his fault we saw "half a completed film and fell in love with it." Shame on us for watching uncompleted films! Shame on us for loving such an incomplete mess! We never would have truly understood Episodes IV - VI if he had not gone back and added all that silly CGI and changed things to tie-in with the utter shit-fest known as Episodes I - III. Thank you, George Lucas! I am now COMPLETELY at one with the Force!
Or...
...maybe George should think long and hard about exactly how he got to where he is now and exaclty who is was that put him there.
