Ready to get scared?

There is a little-known British horror movie coming out on August 4th called The Descent. It hasn't been getting a big marketing push here in the States, so I wanted to help in my own little way.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Seriously? A British horror movie? What do they know about scary movies?"

Well, allow me to retort:

1. The Descent is written and directed by Neil Marshall, an up-and-coming British director who also made Dog Soldiers. Dog Soldiers is one of the best werewolf movies that most of America has never seen. Although popular in England, it didn't get a theatrical run here. The Sci-Fi channel picked up the rights and showed it, where it was somewhat edited and full of commercial breaks. The complete movie is out there on DVD, so I suggest you go find a copy.

2. This movie, The Descent, was released in England over a year ago. It's been screened at a few film festivals in America and was very well received. The geeks over at Ain't It Cool News have been jizzing themselves over it for several months. I got my hands on a copy a few months ago and watched it.

The story goes like this - a group of adventure-seeking gal pals go spelunking in an uncharted cave, get trapped, fight to stay alive, and then realize that there's something else down there in the cave with them, thus having to fight to stay alive again.

Most of you know me well enough to know that I am a huge horror movie buff. The bloodier, the better. I'm also a movie snob that doesn't like to stop or pause movies for anything...ANYTHING. Yeah, that kind of movie snob. Only two horror films have been scary enough to make me look away or give me nightmares - (the original) Nightmare on Elm Street and The Exorcist. We can now safely add The Descent to that list at the number 3 position. This movie scared the absolute shit out of me.

Not just the regular shit. The Absolute Shit.

I have never experienced claustrophobia and paranoia the way I did while watching this movie. God. Damn. Not only did I have to stop the movie two or three times to walk around and catch my breath, I had to turn the lights on and leave them on for a very long time because I was afraid to be in the darkness. Seriously.

That's why I love horror movies. When done correctly, it evokes those primal fears in a way that no other art form can.

I will be seeing this in a theater when it is released, but I won't be doing it alone. Who's brave enough to join me?

MUAH HA HA HA HA hahahchchc*cough cough*.....HAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
